Excel 97 incredibly slow loading old Worksheets on a new machine

We have 2 users who have just been provided with extremely fast
workstations, replacing their old ones. I have installed Excel on their
new machines, however we have encountered a problem with their old
    Worksheets.

On their old machines, worksheets would typically take about 3-4
seconds to load. However since the upgrade, the Spreadsheets are taking
up to 20 seconds to load, despite the fact that the machines are many
    many times faster.

It is my guess that the problem is being caused by a missing link in
the Worksheets, pointing towards something which doesnt exist on the
new Machines. The reason I suspect this, is due to the fact that if you
cut and paste a worksheet and then paste it into a new one, and save it
with a different name, then **the problems go away**. The worksheet
    loads near enough instantly.

Therefore I am thinking there must be some kind of link which is
pointing to something which can't be found on the new machine, and is
eventually timing out. When you cut and paste the worksheet, the
reference to that link is not copied (only the cells and formulas are)
    and it loads instantly.

Is my suspicion correct? Any idea what this mysterious link is? If
anyone could help it would be much appreicated.

    Regards,

    graham

You might take a look at
    http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/slowresp.htm
Check to see if you have outlook installed, if you do
then check to see if journaling got turned on. You want if off.
Another simple thing to try is to delete your temporary internet files.

Did the problem start immediately or after two weeks.
