    Formatting Issue

    Hi

    I'm new on this NG.

Well look as I did into EXCEL help, I cannot find the solution
    to my problem which is:

How do I insert some kind of a block to prevent data from moving down
    on the page i.e.

I have data I'm inserting into cols 200-500 and I don't want the data in
    cols 600-2000 moving down.

Is there anyway of doing this function?

    Thanks
    Vince

It sounds like you're Inserting Cells instead of Pasting.

Instead of INSERTing, the data, PASTE it into the cells.

RON thats what I've been doing the PGM still ask which direction
I want to go with the paste.

    re: Formatting Issue

On a regular paste, Excel (generally should not) ask to move cells.

Can you go back a step or two and tell us where you are getting your
PASTE data from, cutting from another spreadsheet, worksheet, tab,
pasting from Access, or a web page? Are your Copied Data and PAste
range the same size? Maybe your paste range is locked? Or protected?

There's all sorts of factors that cause Excel to behave
counter-intuitively. The more that you can tell us, the more help we
    can offer.

    Good luck.

I think we're at the point where you have to be very precise with the steps you
are taking to get to this point.

In your initial post you mentioned that you were "inserting". In that context,
a dialog box asking which way you want to shift the cells makes sense to me.

Now you imply, in response to my question, that you are "pasting".

In Excel, those are two very different operations.

It would be helpful, in trouble shooting, if you could relay precisely what you
are doing, and precisely what you are seeing.

Use the same terminology that Excel is using in its menus and commands, so we
are all on the same page.

Do a keystroke by keystroke recitation, if that is easier.

The paste data is from the same page, its being rearranged and added
    to sometimes.
