Just change the display format:
=TODAY() formatted as General shows 38800
formatted as m/d/yyy shows 3/24/2006
formatted as dd/mm/yyy shows24/03/2006
The underlying value is the same

Format as your regional dates then do data>text to column, click next twice,
under column data format select MDY and click finish
