Wrap text and row autofit not working in Excel

I have a column that contains 400 rows. The cells within the column contains
varying amounts of simple text (no formulas) where I use the 'alt-enter' key
to create new paragraphs within the cells. In most cases the wrap text and
autofit work correctly. But on a number of the cells the autofit doesn't
work. In addition on some cells the wrap text stop working. For example,
the wrap text works for the first set of lines (say, 20) and then it stops
working even if I manually set the row height. Suggestions?
    Thanks.

I've found that if I put those alt-enters every 80-100 characters, then I can
see lots of text (using a small font, too).

How often do you use the alt-enters?
How much text is in the cell? =len(a1) may help you find that number.
