Can AutoSave's default settings be changed to one's preference?

Every time I start Excel anew the autosave reverts to the 10 minute interval,
prompt before saving, default setting. I want, in general, 15 minutes and no
prompt, just do it. It is annoying to always have to renew this setting.

Would help if you mentioned which version of Excel you have.

Different fixes for different versions.

Since you're talking about Autosave, I will assume Excel 2000 because newer
versions don't have Autosave only Autorecovery which is not the same thing.

Office 2000 Autosave had a bug which was corrected in a Service Release.

As an alternative, you may want to consider using Jan Karel Pieterse's addin
called AutoSafe (note spelling).

It doesn't overwrite the existing workbook when it saves. It saves to a user
selectable folder. And when it's done, it either deletes these backups (or
puts
them in the recycle bin). And the user can always restore the backups from the
recycle bin.

Thanks for the interest and help. I will look at AutoSafe when I have the
chance. I am using Excel 2003 as it came as a part of Office Professional
Ed. 2003. I in fact used one of my two "free" service calls to MS to get
AutoSave sent to me as an add in. Auto recovery was not doing the job and I
was loosing a lot of work which was painful to recreate mentally and
emotionally. What happened is that my new Toshiba notebook would sometimes
not come back from hybernation - a restart was required - and when Excel was
restarted there were no recovered files. Perhaps this is due to some mistake
I made in restarting Excel out of unfamiliarity with the auto recovery deal
but the location of the files, if they existed, was not evident to me. This
drove me back to autosave which is fine except for the problem that setting
are not retained. I will call MS again and say the case was not resolved and
thus see if I can get the fixed version of autosave. The version they sent
me definately does not retain revised settings.

The last version of AUTOSAVE.XLA was Excel 2000 and it was buggy but fixed
with Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

I would suggest you got the buggy version sent to you.

Don't think that obtaining and running SR1 for Excel 2000 will solve that
problem since you are running 2003.

The Excel 97 version of Autosave.xla works fine on Excel 2003.
