SUM Rows in an Array efficiently

For a simple table in, say, cells A1:G1000 containing numbers, I want a total for each row so I can enter:

=SUM(A1:G1) to sum the first row, and copy down the other 999 rows. Simple.

However, I want to keep the size of the workbook really small so am using array formulas wherever I can.

I would have thought: {=SUM(A1:G1000)}, i.e. single formula entered into all 1000 row total cells using Ctrl+Short+Enter, should return individual row totals in each row total cell, but it doesn't, it returns the SUM of all cells in the table.

Please, what am I doing wrong folks?

    goto insert name
in the name box enter a one word name such as
    SumRows
in the reference box at the bottom enter this
    =sum(A1:G1)
    then OK

now highlite the range you want the formula
in the formula bar enter this

    =SumRows
then hit Ctrl and enter at the same time
the formula will enter in all the highlited ranges

or enter the formula in H1 and then dbl click on the fill handle and the formula will drag down to the last cell

your formula is doing what it is supposed to do summing cells a1 to g1000
