Can't open 2 documents in 2 seperate windows

I have 2 documents with data. One has data that the other needs. I was planning on having them both open and cutting and pasting one to the other, but excel wont allow me to have them open at the same time. Meaning, there is one window and I have to copy the select the other document and it pops up then I have to find the right data and then paste it in the right spot. I would like to see 2 different windows copy one cell and paste at the right place in the other. See both documents at the same time. Is there something I am missing here? thanks

The only time I have not been able to open 2 workbooks is when they are both the same name.

If both your books have the same name you will need to rename one of them or open a second copy of Excel and run them side by side

Another option that may prevent you from viewing two excel windows side by side is an option "Windows In Taskbar."

Check the box and then open both files (make sure they have different names!) Each file will have its own window that you can resize.


Alternatively, in newer versions of excel there is an option in the Window menu that reads "Compare Side By Side With..." I have not used this and do not know the pros and cons vs opening up two files side in seperate windows.
