    Cross platform issue

I am mac based and currently running Mac OSX. I've got Office 2004 for the mac and am trying to open and run a 2003 workbook that has been created on a windows platform. The document includes macros which I enable but then asks for a link to be updated to another workbook, (another .xls file). I know that there is no other file but the file won't work and comes up with a 'run time error' message asking to 'debug'. My knowledge is fairly basic but I have found out that this may be to do with ActiveX controls which don't exist on offcie for mac. Is there any way I can get this workbook to work on my mac?

I don't think this has anything to do with ActiveX controls. My guess is that the macros in the Excel file you have reference another file. As you don't have this file, the macros can't run properly. This produces an error. As a result of that error, you get the Run time error message and the question of whether or not you want to 'debug'.

There are only two solutions I can see. You can (1) go in and muck around in the code to determine what is being referenced and try to replace it within the file you are working on, or (2) go back to the person you got it from and ask that he/she either (i) give you the other file, or (ii) put the code from that other file into your file so that the references will work.

Probably not as much help as you would have liked, but hopefully it contributes to you fixing your problem.
