Question Is there such thing as conditional array?

    Hello,

I am new to EXCEL2003. I think I have a handle on the basics and I need help on several complex functions for my application. Is there such thing as a conditional array? I need excel to return a specific value (CODE) for a combination of several conditions for DEPT and CAT throughout the spreadsheet. I have attached an example of the conditions and the code. I have highlighted the fields in green. In my spreadsheet, there are 400 lines of data that are actively tracked. I would like use an array for putting the proper CODE in a cell if a condition in both DEPT and CAT are meet. I have used the "if/and" statement with little success but found that I am limited to about 7 pairs of conditions before I receive a formula error, not to mention a really long formula. (i.e., IF((AND(M2="TAD",O2="TAD")),"TT",ect, I have also tried the "index/match" but could not get that to work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you can list all the combos and result in a table then an index/match or offset/match array formula will lookup the result just fine
