Sorting data in password protected sheet

Hi, I've recieved some great advice here so far, and though I'd ask another question to enable me to finish creating my spreadsheet.

I have several formulas on one worksheet linked to other worksheets within the same book. I don't want the formulas to get deleted, so I've "protected" the sheet.

However, I need to be able to Sort the data that is protected. The cells that need to be sorted contain the formulas that I don't want deleted. Is there still a way to protect a sheet AND allow sorting data but NOT allowing contents to be deleted???

    Thanks again!

In the Tools > Protect > Sheet, there's an option box to tick for allowing sorting

My options are only Protect Worksheet For:

    "Contents"
    "Objects"
    "Scenarios"

I'm using excel 2000. Is this something not available in my version?

    thanks

    Hi,

how many formula are you protecting? - a column or row of formula-fill formulae?
would it be easier to unlock the sheet and replace any changed formula on a Worksheet_Change event?

Bryan, the entire sheet (8 collumns and hundreds of rows) are all formulas linked to othere sheets.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you meant by:

"would it be easier to unlock the sheet and replace any changed formula on a Worksheet_Change event?"

If you think it would be helpful, would appreciate any a input

No - 8 columns and links to other sheets is too much, is the sort a pre-defined sort, such that you can record a macro to repeat the sort, and put an unprotect/passwrod - sort - protect/password into a button?

I have an idea what you're referring to, so I'll play around with it.

I'm also going try emailing it to another computer with a more recent version of Excel that allows sorting as an option, as described above.

    Thanks for the responses

ok - the password thing should work, but only for a pre-defined sort (unless you can trigger a user-sort via a 'User-pressed-this-key' string).

As oldchippy said, 2003 has many more options for te Protect.

Good luck with it, and thanks for the response.
