link a WORD file into an Excel sheet

Is it possible to link a WORD file into an Excel worksheet?
I have an excel workbook and need to include some WORD docs
I’d rather have a live link than cut & paste & it never gets updated once I’m out of the picture.

Insert, Object, Create From File, and locate your document.

this spreadsheet will be provided to customers as a copy of our Comprehensive Plan.

So the entire WORD doc must be visible on the worksheet at all times to users who have no access to the WORD doc.
(obviously their copy will not update)

For the in house users, it will update automatically in a PROTECTED worksheet/workbook.

There is no one here with Excel skills anywhere near mine (which doesn't necessarily imply mine are top notch!) so I need this update to function seamlessly for the company when I am gone.

yes, but, . . when you currently rightmouse the item and select Edit, does it show that the full list of pages are visible? - or did it simply pick up the first page?

    SCENARIO 1
to simulate what the customer will see:
the WORD doc is on my C drive
the Excel file is on the server
and I'm opening the file from a coworkers PC

    you only see page 1
when you Rt mouse and select Document Object, Edit it cannot find the WORD file because it's not on a drive accessible to that PC

    SCENARIO 2
on my PC when you Rt mouse and select Document Object, Edit it opens the full WORD doc in WORD - this is fine

However, at no point does the Rt mouse offer a list of pages to view

    I'm using OFFICE 2000

Easiest is to click on the object, then double-click on the side of the object to produce a gray border, this is then fully scrollable.

    testing further

any double clicking attempts to open WORD to view the full document

when the user has no access to the drive containing the original document
the error message I get is
"Cannot start the source application for this object"

2003 treats this as 'Embed Document' but for 2000 it's across to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822622 which has the 2000 support for your request, difficult to test under 2003

Thank you for all your assistance,

I'm going to propose reformatting the WORD doc into a chart (it's more concise & looks cleaner anyway)
then I won't have to worry about customers not having the Binder installed or having to Unbind in XP

That sounds like a plan, and hopefully will suffice for you until you upgrade to 2003/2007
    Thanks for your response.
