    Changing access database location

I was sent an access database with a linking excel workbook. The link isnt a pivot table but just importing the data. When I right-click and hit refresh I get ODBC Microsoft Access Driver Login Failed - make sure the path name is spelled etc. etc. How do I change the location? I cant find a manual place to do it.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

If you hover the mouse on the link does it give you the option to 'click-and-hold-to-select'?

Let's try the simple approach first. When you get the error message, does the message box have OK / Cancel? When you click OK, do you get a login dialog? If yes, the database is PROBABLY not password protected ... so just click the "database" button. This will open a (very old style) file open dialog, which will allow you to navigate to the new location.

If the database is password protected and you do not know the password, write back and I'll tell you where to find it (in general, Microsoft passwords are to prevent UNINTENTIONAL changes; and, as in this case, are relatively easy to find if you know where and how to look).

If the error message does not have an OK button, then try this ...
Click in the table, like you would before right-clicking to refresh.
On the Excel menu select Data >> Import External Data ... do you see an option there for "Edit Query"? Try following that path.

What version of Excel are you using?
