    Thousands separator in hours format

I keep my pilot flight times in an excel spreadsheet.

The country in which I fly requires that I enter times in h:mm format. I have no trouble in summing the times in h:mm format, but cannot get the totals to display with the thousands separator for hours greater than 999:59.

Specifically, I want to display the “thousands” separator. Eg, my totals show as 15245:56 whereas I want to display as 15,245:56.

I’ve tried for days to use the custom number format to display the thousands separator in the h:mm format, but so far it eludes me.

Anyone know how to do this?

    Suggestion that could work.

Record a Macro which changes a 'number' cell from 1000 to 1,000

Check the Macro code; you may be able to run the marco on your custom time cell hh:mm

Alternatively, if that does not work you could attempt to combine the code for setting a cell to [HH] and then adding the previous code onto it..

I've found a pretty reasonable way to do it in another forum. It's not exactly what I wanted, but it looks like an actual format is not available in Excel, so this is the next best solution.

Thanks to all those who contributed suggestions.
