Import is single column; want multiple columns

I would have thought this would be easy but spent more than an hour on my own noodling with the menus and Excel help and am no closer to a solution. I run Excel in Mac OS X so let's get that out of the way first. Hopefully it is not so different from the Windows version. Here is my issue:

I have imported a text file into Excel. Ideally this text data is meant to be displayed in a succession of rows and five columns across like so:

    A1 A2 A3 A4 A5
    B1 B2 B3 B4 B5
    .
    .
    .
    Z1 Z2 Z3 Z4 Z5

When it imports it comes in as a single column like so:

    A1
    A2
    A3
    A4
    A5
    B1
    B2
    .
    .
    .
    Z1
    Z2
    Z3
    Z4
    Z5

I thought it would be relatively easy to get the data to reparse as I want it into five columns but for the life of me I could not figure this out. Can someone help me with this? Thanks.

    Mac OS X 10.4.8
    Excel 10.1.0

if your data starts in a2 try the following and copy it to the right and down. Then you can copy it on top of its self as paste special as values to remove the formula

    =OFFSET($A$2,(ROW(A1)-1)*5+COLUMN(A1)-1,0)

    Regards

Brilliant! Thank you. Worked a treat. Never would have figured that one out on my own.
