Unhappy How to do absolute/relative/mixed reference?

    Hi All!
I'm having a really hard time with excel and the formulas. I don't know much about them..I've read around but I'm not getting anywhere. I have a few questions. This is what I need to be doing:

Write cell K5 as a relative reference, absolute reference, mixed reference with the row varying, and mixed reference with the column varying.

How do I do that??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Good evening Leanne07

    ...and welcome to the forum.

All formulae are intially relative. To make them absolute add a $ sign before the row and number to make it absolute :
    $A$1
    To make just the row absolute ;
    A$1
and to make just the column absolute :
    $A1

The easiest way to insert these "$" signs, though is to just press F4 when editing a formula and Excel will cycle through all four states.

Re: How to do absolute/relative/mixed reference?

What to do if it does not work?

I get same values if a $b1 or $b$1. What do I do wrong?

I want to lock the row, not the colmun and it just do not work.

    Best regards

To lock the row, you need B$1. B is the column and 1 is the row.

    Hi,

Even if it is, did you read the bit about providing a link when you start your own thread. We certainly don't expect posters to upload their own files in a thread someone else has started.

Please follow Alan's request if you want specific help.
