How to display negative dollar amounts

I have a worksheet that can contain both positive and negative money amounts in a column. I've been giving myself a headache with trying to format the column so that when a macro is applied, the negative money amounts come out as follows: $ (1234.56) but that positive money amounts come out without the parentheses.

If someone has come up with a way to do what I'm looking for, I would be grateful if you might share your knowledge. Thanks in advance!!
