Question Locking few cells without Protecting Sheet

    Hi,

I have few columns which require manual data input. And few other columns, which calculates value from the data columns. The workbook will be used in shared way. So I want to protect the formula columns, from any manual data entry.

I have tried the locking cell and protecting sheet utility of excel. But there is a problem. Whenever i used the protecting sheet utility, the "Ctrl+PageUp" keyboard function becomes ineffective for that particular sheet.

As there are large number of sheets in that particular workbook, it is essential that "Ctrl+PageUp" keyboard function works. Because various users require to work on various sheets and "Ctrl+PageUp" keyboard function makes the work faster. So i want to enable it.

Is there any other way to resolve the problem??

    Hi there,

To protect (lock) specific cells/ranges in a spreadsheet, follow these nine steps:

    1. Highlight the cells you want to be unlocked
    2. From the Format menu select Cells
    3. If isn't already selected, click the Protection tab
    4. Ensure the Locked check box is unselected (not ticked)
    5. Click OK
    6. From the Tools menu select Protection and then Protect Sheet
    7. Select (tick) any selections (check boxes) you'd like the users to be able to do from the Allow all users of this worksheet to list
    8. If you like, enter a password in the Password to unprotect sheet text box
    9. Click OK

Excel will then only allow data entry/edit into the cells you selected in step one above.

I've tested this and it has no effect on scrolling through the tabs in the workbook either by using Ctrl+PageUp (a sheet at a time to the left) or Ctrl+PageDown (a sheet at a time to the right) unless of course you're either at the first or last tab (respectively) in the workbook.

    HTH
