format change "general" to "currency" ($)

Hi,

I have a list of generated cells of numbers with decimals when i right click a cell then "format cells" the selected category is "general" when i select "currency" ($) and click ok it does not show the $ sign, i have to double click each cell then just press enter for the $ sign to appear my problem is it spans columns and rows of numbers

Any efficient way to show the $ sign for all the cells i select to format to currency?

Hi kidrock,

The problem is your numbers are really text and not numbers at all. You can convert all of them to numbers using a Paste Special feature. Type a zero in any blank cell and then copy it to the windows clipboard using Ctrl+C. Now select all those cells that look like numbers but aren't. Then right click on the select cells and Paste Special and click on ADD. This will add zero to them and convert them to numbers.

Now try to format them all at once to currency.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

Re: format change "general" to "currency" ($)

hi,

Im using excel 2013 and there is no "add" options in the "paste special" menu

before i was using excel 2003 there was a multiply option wherein i type "1" on an empty cell, copy then select cells then right click and then select paste opntion then select multiply that would convert it to a number

im wondering is there a vba code where from the selected cells each cell will simulate a "double click" and a "press enter" ?

m using excel 2013 and there is no "add" options in the "paste special" menu
you can find it under the "Paste" button. Click the dropdown, and look at the bottom of the window that opens
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
