    excel protection and losing formulas

    Hi,

I have locked certain cells which have formulas on them. eg if statements.
However sometimes we have to overide these formulas and put data directly in these cells. To do this I unprotect the cell, but in doing so the formula is deleted.
How can I protect the cell, overide the formula to put data directly in the cell and not lose the formula

if you overwrite the formula, you lose it.
The only way would be to have the formula copied to another (maybe hidden?) area of the sheet, and have a macro copy it back when desired.
