PivotTable question: Option Grayed out for unknown reason

I've been learning PivotTables recently and I'm just beginning Performing PivotTable Calculations. I'm trying to change the PivotTable Summary Calculation. I'm following my book's instructions step-by-step and all the pictures are the same, until my problem. All my Summarize By: options are grayed out (i.e. Sum, Count, Average, Max, Min, etc.)

    Using Excel 2003

    Here's what I'm doing:
    Right-click on data field button
    Choose Field Settings
Then I'm supposed to be able to select the summary calculation I want, but I can't. All the options are grayed out.

I've tried toggling everything I can find to toggle and nothing is working. Any ideas what would cause these to be greyed out? Is it a problem with my source data? Thanks for any help.

    I think its fixed-ish

    Thanks for the greeting!

I hacked together a solution, though I'm still curious how it happened orginally. My data field was called "OrderTotal" but my list didn't have an OrderTotal heading (this was data that I downloaded from my book's companion site). How it was compiling its data is still beyond me, but ultimately I went to the source data and created a new heading called OrderTotal2 with the appropriate data beneath it, then refreshed the data on my PivotTable and made it work. So it was greyed out because apparently it had no data to process, even though it was displaying data.

Could it have been a custom formula? Because OrderTotal was the sum of Price and Shipping. If it was a custom formula, would that have caused the above problem?
