    VLOOKUP and multiple values

    I'm trying to use VLOOKUP to sum values spread across a few different tabs on a worksheet. I tried an addition formula (ie, fx=VLOOKUP Acct 2, 'TAB 1'! + VLOOKUP Acct 2, 'Tab2'!... but that didn't work. When I copied all data onto a single tab, VLOOKUP only gave me one event from the data (ie, if Acct 2 was $50 in Dept 1 and $40 in Dept 2, I'd see only the $40 and not $90).

    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks in advance.

    How many tabs are you looking at?

    Did you try adding several Sumif() functions together?

    e.g. =Sumif(Sheet1!A1:A100,X1)+Sumif(Sheet2!A1:A100,X1)+......

    I'm having a hard time visualizing how that would work.

    about 6 tabs... the lines aren't the same from tab to tab - ie, acct 30 is on line 34 in tab 1 but on like 26 on tab 2.

    Sorry, my Sumif's were missing the sum ranges....

    e.g. =Sumif(Sheet1!A1:A100,X1,Sheet1!B1:B100)+Sumif(Sheet2!A1:A100,X1,Sheet1!B1:B100)

    where X1 is the value (on your summing sheet) to lookup in each sheet.

    A1:A100 is the range in each sheet that the lookup value may be found in (could be anywhere within that range)
    B1:B100 is the corresponding value to sum in each sheet.

    If you are having a hard time...then post a zipped workbook sample with details.

    There is another formula we can use that is smaller but not as simple to decipher....and it needs either consecutively numbered tab names or an index of tab names...
