countif date range + individual

hi all,

hope you can help...

I have three columns. a, b and c.

a contains peoples names, b contains dates and c contains numerical values (e.g. number of widgets made)

in a separate column i want to specify a date range and person i.e.

d1 = 1.1.07
d2 = 31.3.07
d3 = david white

i would like a function to count all the widgets made by david white during the given time period. i think this might be quite simple but i'm struggling at the moment.
