Trying to Create a Percent Field in a Pivot Table

    Hello Everyone,

I just found this excellent forum and hoping that someone can help me. Here's what i'm doing:

I'm brand new to pivot tables and i'm trying to create a field that displays values as percents based on another field. In English:

I have rows from my Categories column, then I have an Amount column that displays the total sum of each category. Now, I need to show what the percentages of each amount are per category. I am aware that I can go into the Field Settings and then click the Show Value As tab - but when I select percentages all I get are #N/A for each row. HELP is no help, and this is terribly frustrating!!

The big question that I have is how do I base my percentages on the AMOUNT column? I'm not seeing an option for the TOTAL in the drop-down menu under the BASE FIELD section.

    Help!!!

I'll try and insert a paste of my pivot table, if this does't work so well i'll try uploading some screenshot files:

    Values
Row Labels Sum of Amount Pct of Total
    Administration 958.09 #N/A
    Equipment 6575 #N/A
    Feed 2002.24 #N/A
    Medicine 1249.32 #N/A
    Payroll 2638.27 #N/A
    Repairs 2003.44 #N/A
    Vet 2320.57 #N/A
    Grand Total 17746.93 #N/A
