    Dividing one cell by another

I know this is excel basics but I'm pretty basic with excel so it fits me right.

I basically just need to divide one column of cells by another column of cells and have it output in a empty third column.

Anyone know a way to do this easily in excel 2007? I have about 330 cells of GMP (gross metropolitan products) and I need to divide it by 330 cells of the corresponding population, thus getting GMP per capita.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Assuming GMP is column A & Population is column B... In cell C2, =a2/b2.

Copy C2, highlight C3 through to the end of your data and Paste.

Yes, but then it is going to divide all the same numbers I need it to automatically adjust, so I don't have to go through and type =A1/B1 =A2/B2 =A3/B3.

Know any other tricks to do this?

    Thanks!

If you have a formula like =A1/B1 in C1 then when you copy the formula down the column it will adjust automatically to become =A2/B2 etc.

This is not working for me. It just outputs the same number in each column. IS there like a simple macro available some where?

You may have calculation set to manual.

    Press F9 to re-calculate

Set calculation to automatic through Tools > Options > Calculation

in my opinion you need to add each column and divide the totals rather than a1/b1, a2/b2 and add up column C

    because

    3/4 = .75
    20/100 = .2

    23/104 = .22
the average of .75 and .2 is .475
