    Protect range of cells?

Is there a way to only protect a range of cells in a worksheet so the user doesn't enter data or info in these cells? Most of the worksheet will be unprotected but part of it won't. For example, data that is unprotected is all of the worksheet except D42 - AY43. So if the user tries to type anything
into D42 - AY43 it will not enter or will send a message box back saying "Do not enter in these cells, they're protected".

Could someone send an example or explain how to do this?
    Thank you.

    Hi Rocky,

Here's what you need to do:
If most of your cells will be unprotected, First highlight the entire worksheet (or the range you are working in). Then rightclick anywhere in the range and "Format Cell". Choose the Protection Tab and Uncheck "Locked." Hit "OK".

Then highlight the cells you want to be protected and follow the same procedure but make sure the cells are "locked."

Then when you protect your worksheet (under the tools dropdown), people can only input into the unprotected cells.
