Inconsistent Forumla Error

How can one avoid getting the "inconsistent formula" error message everytime you change adjoining or disparate cell contents. It is a HUGE aggravation to have to go to each cell flagged and select "ignore error" from the tiny drop down menu. You cannot highlight a range of cells to correct them all at once.
