    Lock Edit?

Is it possible to lock specific cells or columns so that they cannot be edited?

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, Luminary Xion.

Yes, cells can be protected against the user changing them.

The Format Cell dialog has a Protection tab, one can set a cell to be Locked or not. The contents of a Locked cell cannot be changed. If a locked cell contains a formula, the value of that formula will change when the inputs change, but the cell will always contain the formula.

Locking of cells does not take effect unless the sheet is Protected.

Pre-2007, sheet protection is in the Tools menu.

    I hope that helps.

    This procedure should work.

    1) Select some cells.
    1a) On Mac, press Cmd + 1.
1b) On Windows, I think its Alt +1, perhaps Ctrl+1.

    2) The Formating Cells Dialog should open.
    3) On the Protection tab, set the Locked checkbox to un-checked. Click OK

    4) Select some different cells. Format them, with their protection Locked.

If you are pre-Excel 2007, under the Tools menu, choose Protect>Protect Sheet.

You should be able to enter into the unlocked cell but not into the locked ones.
