    Excel multi dimensional weighted scoring

    Hi!

I'm doing a GCSE project for which I need a little help with Excel.
I have a set of data about a persons monthly spending habits on

    Food 300
    Entertainment 200
    Clothing 100
    Transport 260

The pre calculated budget allowance for the month was 500

I would like to write a formula that would do the following; give the person an score out of 1.1-10 based on how well he spent on the above items which are in order of priority (i.e. it is better to spend more on food than on entertainment etc) And then an over all score (1.1-10) that will reflect how well they spent.

Any suggestions, ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks!
    Tim

    Hi,

You'll need to give us more information, and the rules for this evaluation.

For instance how are you defining how 'well they spend'?
What are the constraints on the mix of spending, and the inter-relationships associated with spending on one commodity rather than another. Clearly there must be some otherwise, no one would spend on entertainment since you've already said that it's better to spend on food rather than that.

    Rgds
