I am using Excel 2000 and the validation list is not case sensitive if you references a named range but is case sensitive if you use a list within the Data Validation text box. Maybe you have it backwards?

Instead of typing your list into the data validation box after choosing List, have your list somewhere in the spreadsheet and either type in the range (e.g. B6:B15) or once your cursor is in that box, highlight the range and it should appear there.
