    Split Excel Cell w/o Text-2-Column?

    Hi all,

I have a cell that has this in it:

    "5+5"

That's how the data arrives to me. I would like to have another cell display the result (i.e. 10) so I won't need to calculate everything by hand. How can I do this with a formula? I don't want to use text-to-columns, and I'd prefer not to use VBA. Thanks!

You can give this a try:

go to Insert|Name|Define and enter the word "Evaluation" (without quotes) in the Names in workbook field.

Then in the Refers to field enter formula: =A1 where A1 is the first cell that has an equation to evaluate.

    Click Ok.

Now go to the cell next to the one with the equation and enter "Evaluation" (again without quotes).... it should evaluate the equation... you can now copy it down.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

    and what i did

untitled 2 - inserted "Evaluation" name, and redirected it to the first cell.

But what do you mean when you say "go to the cell next to the one with the equation and enter "Evaluation""? How do I enter "evaluation" into a cell again?

so assuming your equation is in C2 based on the formula you show in the attachment....then go to D2 and just type the word Evaluation...

What version of Excel are you in?

Not sure if works in 2007.

If you are in 2003 or earlier, post the sheet and I can look at it tomorrow....

    Hi,

It won't work if you have more than one "+" between the numbers. You need to give examples, but please start a new thread with your examples

    Thanks.

My problem is that every month someone will enter another + and figure as so I would need a count if type formula that would add all numbers within a given cell.
