Pivot table - Text formula for column containing text & numbers?

Hi
I am wondering if someone can please give me a hand. I have a column in my pivot list that contains both text and numbers and when i create the pivot table the column containing the text is shown as numbers ie. "0". I think i might need to add a text formula to the column in the pivot list so they are displayed as they appear in the list? If so how do you do this formula?
