We have fields in a text file that are string encased with quotes “” . Inside the string is a newline character, hex 0a.

When we open the file by selecting the file in window explorer, and the “Open With…” Excel. The file is opened correctly with the quoted record contained in one cell.

When you open excel first, and then open the file from within excel, the quoted cell is not recognized, and the new line breaks the record putting some of the fields on new rows.

This is Excel 2003. Now we have a client that has Excel 2003 and when he opens via windows explorer...Open with excel-- the quoted cell is broken into two records in all cases.

Are there any setting that controls the handling of newline characters 0x0a;

Thanks,
Irwin
