Converting a date into text

I'm trying to use the year of a date field within another cell as a piece of text.

Each thing I've tried has just returned a numeric value from the date field.

E.G.

Cell A1 = 23/12/1971

I want cell B2 = "1971", which I really want to be able to CONCATENATE into "Year born 1971".
