is there a way to "fill" a series of cells but keep one number in formula fixed?

    HI

I keep encountering a problem where I have a column of values on which I want to perform a calculation and one of the numbers in the equation I would like to remain fixed, or refer to one cell throughout the series. I find that as I drag the fill cursor to copy the formula down throughout all the values in the column not only does the cell reference that I want to change but the fixed cell reference also changes...I don't know if that reads clearly but I can't figure out how else to explain it...

    any ideas?

    Hi,
    Try the $ signs ie:
    =$A$1+A2
so when you drag the formula down it will look like this
    =$A$1+A3
    =$A$1+A4
    =$A$1+A5
    =$A$1+A6
    =$A$1+A7
    =$A$1+A8

To show the differences between the Relative and Absolute Cell references and also to show there is more than one combination of a absolute cell references(displayed further down the page).
