    triangle in upper left corner of a cell

    what does the triangle in the upper left corner of a cell indicate? what causes it?

    The green triangle is warning you that there is something "awkward" about your entry in that cell...

    Excel is trying to tell you to review what you've entered because there may be an error or inconsistency.

    When you click on that cell, you should be presented with a popup containing a small yellow diamon with an exclamation point inside. Click that and you will be given a menu..which also tells you the warning and if you want to fix/ignore it.
    Where there is a will there are many ways.
