    Excel file name issue

    Hi there,

I am using Excel 2003 (Office Professional) and every time I open up a file, a '1' is added after the filename, and I can't figure out why.

So, for example, if I have an XLS file on my desktop called 'Test' then when it opens in Excel it opens as Test1.

Does anyone know of a setting that would be causing this and how I stop it?!!

    Thanks.

    Hi,

You are opening two or more copies of the same file. Go to Window and look at the list to see how many are open ie. Book1:1, Book1:2, Book1:3

Click off books 2 and 3, save the file, next time you open up only one workbook should open.

    HI,

That is not the case - this happens when I just open the file once, and there is no ':1' or ':2', it is just simply Book1, or filename1. Not as easy as that.

    Any more ideas?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

When you open Excel normally the default book is always called Book1, is that what you mean?

    Hi,

Yes I know that, but for example if I have a file stored on my hard drive called 'Wednesday.xls' then it should open as 'Wednesday', but instead it is opening as 'Wednesday1'.

Does it say Wednesday1.xls or Wednesday.xls:1 in the top blue bar of the Excel Window?
