    defaulting column/cell/page formating

    Hello!

Tried to search for answers to the below but came up empty. Here goes...

This is all regarding MS Excel version 2003:

    1) Can I set a default so that when I paste in a column of zip codes into my spreadsheet it will automatically retain those that start with the number zero? Currently I have to find any 4 digit zip, highlight it, and format that cell "special" top make the zero appear.

    2) I import information that includes a column with a long string of numbers (Sales ID). Sometimes excel will changed those numbers when I paste them into a spreadsheet as follows: 120230799064 becomes 1.20231E+11. I have to click on the number and then format/cell/number/0 decimal places to get it right. Is there a way in preferences or similar to set up this to be do automatically as a default setting or other?

    3) How can I set a default for "match destination formatting" so that when I paste in a number that has a different font size or type, excel will automatically transform it into the existing format of the excel sheet I am pasting it into?

I very much appreciate any and all help.

    excellista!

Hi and welcome to the board,

as your question addresses different topics, maybe it would be better to post three different threads.
I think your question nr 2 has already been answered in the forum. Search around a bit.
    Cheers

    Smile Responce appreciated

    Thanks, but...

It would be a fair bit more work to list these three general questions in three separate threads when none seems to be so complicated or individual that such a move is required. Still I appreciate the suggestion and if I get no useful responses I'll take you up on it.

Second, if you know of a specific post that addresses one or all of my questions, why not link me to that post? It is rather daunting to search this voluminous forum for answers to these questions. As I wrote in the initial post above, I did try to search first. Did about a half hour of hunting and came up empty, hence the post.

Again, thanks for your response. No need to reply further unless you actually can answer one of my three questions or link me to an answer

As you can see, lots of people read your post and nothing was posted.
I'm sorry you expect somebody else should do the seraching for you.
So, I will close this thread.
