    Data Collation

    Hi folks,

I'm not sure this is even possible but here goes - (please see attached file)
This is chart to keep a record of business referrals between people.

    1. In the column 'from' is it possible to start typing a name in the cell and excel find matches for you to select from?

    2. Is it then possible for the chart further across to register in the appropriate cell that the referral has happened and to keep a running tally?

Once I've learnt how to do this, if at all possible, I shall be back to learn even more.

    Andrew

PS. Sorry but I'm really out of my (limited) depth on this.

    Gday Andrew-Mark,

    Does the attachment help ??

Just look at the results first, then start play around with the spreadsheet.

    Cheers

    Thanks Rat-Cat,

You've shown me how to do the most important part, and I can understand how you did it!!!

For columns B & C is there a way for Excel to recognise what I'm typing and show all possible matches without typing all of the name?

OK, thanks to RatCat I am half way there.

I would also like to find out who are the top and bottom referrers and referees are each month. I have tried lots of different lookup functions but none seem to do it. Can it be done and is it possible to list all names if it's a tie?

Many thanks to all, I am learning stuff each time you help

    Hi again,

Give me half an hour to get back to my own computer. Kids bed time. After that I'll post some answers.

    G'day

I think a table would be the way to go.

I've inserted a macro to sort the ranking.
You need to push on 'Referee' and 'Referrer' to sort.

Please double check if I've got the referee and referrer right.

    Hope you like.
