create static headers for sorting and viewing data

I have a row that contains headers for my columns of data which will ultimately run into several dozen pages in length.

How do I lock a row of cells into a specific location (at the top of the page) then a single column so that I can have my rows numbered?

Update - create static headers for sorting and viewing data

I forgot to mention that it would be great to have the header row and the column of numbers to be automatically recreated on each new page....especially if a Page Break is inserted to separate different days.

Press F1 then search for 'Freeze Panes'

As for the second post in this thread....err.....no.

If so I like to hear too.

    Cheers

    thanks ratcat.

Freezing the panes isn't what I am looking for, though I have experimented with it to see if it could serve my needs.

I keep thinking back to my college days when I was proficient in Excel but cannot remember how I used to create the headers I am looking for and am not sure how to describe it.

The data, generated hourly, needs to be entered on a spreadsheet that will encompass many weeks. I have my columns titled: Shot, Filename, WK/BK, PG, Version, S-L, Key, S/M/C, Date. These columns would be my "table" but will cover several dozen pages. I don't want to have copy-and-paste these column headers to each new page or have to move them into the appropriate place if I sort the spreadsheet to view the data in a different way.

Column "A" on my sheet is used to track units so I would like to have those cells always represent 1-20 regardless of how the rest of the sheet is sorted or filtered.

    Thanks for the help
