simple formula but with a capped value

i think this is fairly basic but i haven't been able to figure this one out yet...

i have a simple division formula (a cell value divided by a specific number). i want the formula to calculate like normal until the result reaches 42. if the calculation exceeds 42, i want the result ignored and for 42 to displayed as the result.

i hope that makes some sense.

If your value is in A1, and the divisor is 23,

=IF(A1/23>42,42,A1/23)
