Adding columns only with $ sign

Im new here well sort of as I cant recall my prev username and also cant recall the email address I used to register

    Is this doable in excel?
I want to add up all the values in all the rows across but ONLY those values that have a dollar sign ($) in front.

For example (note: columns is separated by commas)
    3,$4,5,6,$10,3,$1

if i were to add up only those values with a $ sign in front of them the answer would be 15. (ie: $4+$10+$1).
I dont need to put a $ sign in front of the sum. 15 is fine, not $15.

    Hi,

Welcome to the forum, I'm assuming your numbers are formatted as GENERAL and your others are formatted as CURRENCY, if so does this help?

or if you have mixed currencies (like $ and €) you could use a UDF:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
    So to total the range:

    =Currency_Total(A1:G1,"$")

    should work.

    COL1 COL2 COL3 COL4 COL5 COL6 COL7
    12 2 $4 1 $2 3 $6

In the above example, Excel should only add COLs 4, 5 and 7 (with $ signs) Result goes to COL1 = 12 (without $ sign).

What formula should I code in COL1?
