    Question Pivot Tables Question

Hello. This to me seems like something that 'should' be simple enough to solve, but I'm going CRAZY trying to figure it out.

How do you merge data from two columns in a Pivot Table?

Here's what I mean. My Excel table (data) looks something like:

    Date: Truck Repaired: Parts Repaired
    01/01/05 2 Brakes Transmission Headlights
    03/05/05 4 Brakes Headlights
    03/09/05 2 Transmission Headlights
    04/30/05 2 Brakes Horn

So here, what I would want as output of the Pivot Table is the following:

Date: (grouped drop-down with months/quarters, etc)

    Parts Repaired
Truck Brakes Transmission Headlights Horn Total
    2 2 2 2 1 7
    4 1 0 1 0 2
    Total 3 2 3 1 9

My issue comes in grouping the multiple columns for data entry. Excel tries to tell me that they are Part Repaired, Part Repaired2, Part Repaired3, and doesn't group them.

    Help!

    Thanks in advance.

OK, that doesn't look like when I typed it, but hopefully you get the 'gist.

The main thing to notice is that there are multiple input columns for "Parts Repaired", as often there can be more than one part repaired during maintenance.

For data entry simplicitiy, it is prefered to have this multi-column format to having multiple entries and one Parts Repaired column like,
    Date ________ Truck Repaired______ Parts
    01/04/08__________1_____________Brakes
    01/04/08__________1_____________Transmission
    01/04/08__________1_____________Horn

    It is easier to input

    Date_________Truck_____________Parts
    01/04/08_______1_______________Brakes____Transmission________Horn

PM me and I'll e-mail an easier-to-interpret version of this issue.

The format doesn't show up very well in these text-only boxes.

PS, my local IT guy and the IT guy at my last job both came up empty.

    Help!!
