Question [NOT SOLVED - BUT CLOSED] Can't exit design mode because - Error Msg

    Hello again,

I have a production report card spreadsheet with numerous checkboxes. Originally I also had text boxes for user input - which I have since removed all of and simply unlocked cells for user input (I protect the spreadsheet). My problem is that now that I have removed ALL of the textboxes - I get the error message "Can't exit design mode because Control 'TextBox3' can not be created." everytime I go to lock the spreadsheet after tweeking or upon opening of the file. I also cannot use the checkboxes now because I am stuck in design mode.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this...or better yet...how to stop the error msg altogether? I googled and no answers...some theories that it was a bug with excel2003...but I find it hard to believe as I found posts for the same message of users of WORD2003...so I am thinking it might be VBA related???

Any help to stop the insanity would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you got rid of them all? If you open the VBE and type in the Immediate window

    ? ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Count

    ... what does it return?

Is there code in the workbook?

Sorry for the delay...I didn't know about the Immediate Window...it came back as 1.

I checked again and do not see any textboxes anywhere...I have code, but it is related to the checkboxes (YES/NO/NA - code prevents more than one being checkmarked at any one time).

I have attached the file - normally the FORMULAS SHEET is hidden. There may be a lot of redundancies...but thats how my brain works...and is probably the root cause of my issue....but again, any help would be appreciated.

Well...I must have done something. I closed and reopened the spreadsheet...entered it and it didnt say anything...but when I went to protect the worksheet and clicked on something I got the same original error message. - repeated your steps and now it says 0 oleobjects - still gives me the same original error message.

I noticed it also then puts me in Design mode - although the sheet is protected.

I ended up reverting back to an older version (Thank god I save older versions!) and re-traced the changes I made...still not sure what went wrong and where...but the new sheet is seemingly working fine now.

Thanks for the trying...I did learn about the Immediate Window...nice to know it exists!
