    Backward Calculating

    Hi... again

I get the feeling that I may have posted this in the wrong place.... Sorry if I have.

I am trying to calculate a required price increase automatically.

I have 20,000 part number but I am actually onlu able to increase 5,344 of them due to various reasons.

I am trying to achieve a 4% gain... is there anyway to calculate the increase needed to get 6,385,377 to 6,640,807 when I am only able to increase the 5,344 parts?

I have been manually worked out that this needs to be 4.91% but would like it to be dynamic incase something changes.

    Thanks for your help... again.

Would need to know how to recognize which items qualify as your 5344 which can be increased. You need a gain of
    6,385,377 to 6,640,807
255430 over 5344 items, but having no idea what makes which items qualify it's hard to say what we need to do.

I know... this is the problem that I have but thought people with greater mind than mine might be able to work it out

    Re: Backward Calculating

Assuming 6,385,377 is the current total price of all the parts (which is a strange thing to total), then the 5,344 parts need to increase by a total of 255,430, or 47.80 each.

If it is instead to be a percentage increase, then total the current price of those parts, compute what fraction 255,430 is of the total, and increase each by that amount.

    Re: Backward Calculating

Might help if you tell us how you know which ones are excluded and which ones are included. There are many ways to implement conditional functions, but with no criteria, I don't really have anywhere to start.

How do you know which ones can be increased?
