Conditional formatting & Coloured data bars

Looking at this function ; i can only see how it allows you to represent 'visually' a value in a cell in terms of a coloured bar. with the colour changing depending on the magnitude of the value.

I would like to use the function to represent two lots of data (from two other cells )shown with two coloured bars within one cell, so that each bar is end to end within one cell, then with 'spare' length at the end of the bar representing 'un-used' capacity.

    Can anyone advise ?

You would need to roll your own in cell charting.
The REPT formula can be used to draw bars.

    REPT is a worksheet function.
By 'Roll your own' I mean you will have to write the formula as there is no built-in data bars prior to 07.

    Did you read the article?

Re: Conditional formatting & Coloured data bars

Sorry , I amended my software spec , i do have 2007 .. So have the data bar function .

But what im after doing is having two values represented by two bars in one cell, stacked horizontally. I ve almost given it up as a bad job ...

The benefit of using this bars thing has to be proportional to the time im investing in. Otherwise my Boss isn't going to be happy.;-(

i've quized a couple of colleauges, and lookig at the 'hardwired' data bar options, weve concluded that it cant be done.

    Any futher bids?

Re: Conditional formatting & Coloured data bars

To confirm xl2007 has a data bar function not a stacked or clustered data bar function.

As I said you will need to create these yourself either with formula or small charts.
