Shared workbook will only open as read-only

    Hi,

I have a shared workbook that a hand full of people could be using at any one time. I had an interesting thing happen this morning - I went to open it and it told me that the workbook was locked for editing by another user. The workbook was still shared so I'm not sure how this happened. It would only let me open a read-only copy.

Does anyone know why this happens and what you can do to avoid it?

    Cheers,

    Chris

Did it give you 3 options: Read-Only, Notify, Cancel

The files that we have shared at work tend to have this statement when the file is currently open by another user.

It this is that case you can read-only and save an additional copy or notify. This will let know what the user has closed the file and you can save the changes you have made.
