    Excel Challenge

    Excel Challenge:

    I believe this to be a standard and simple exercise - but have a feeling it has an advanced solution. (Excel 2003).

    I have 2 worksheets:

    Worksheet1 (Key) lists unique part codes. For each part code there are common attributes, such as count, length, and color.

    Worksheet2 (Data) lists multiple instances of these part codes. For each part code, I would like to somehow reference the key in order to automatically populate the corresponding attributes.

    Note: I would expect to use 100's of partcodes in the key (so a match function would not work due to its limitation of 30 arguments).

    What method would you recommend to automatcailly populate these cells based on the part code?

    Re: Excel Challenge

    Check out the VLOOKUP function in XL Help, to get you going:

    Data!B2:=VLOOKUP($A2,Key!$A:$D,COLUMNS($A2:B2),0)
    copy across to D2
    copy A2:D2 down for all rows

    EDIT: Please rephrase the title of the thread to something relevant to your question - "Data Retrieval" or somesuch
