Can you please educate me as to how i can automatically add a week to a start date i have in a rotas for the whole year?.

Perhaps
=A1+7
where A1 holds start date - copy across/down as far as required.

Not at all we all start somewhere ...
I should have explained why that works... Dates in XL are Integers - ie today in Integer terms is 39897 where 1 is 1st Jan 1900 (based on 1900 system).... thus adding 7 to Today is equivalent to adding 7 to 39897 and the integer value 39904 when formatted to a Date thus equates to 1st April 2009.
On an aside it follows that Time Values are Decimal ... ie given a day is essentially worth 1 then it follows that 12 hours should = 0.5 etc...
