    Adding Comments To Pivot Table

    Dear all,

I have a small issue in Excel 2010. Having prepared a huge data analysis by the means of a pivot table, there is a huge amount of product number inconsistency among the data. Hence there is the need of being able to add comments to individual data sets in the Pivot table. Of course, this imposes various problems when resorting the Pivot Table. Comments obviously will not work and just adding a column neither.

Thus - what is the possibility (maybe some macro magic) to add comments to the dataset from within a Pivot table. I am completely lost there, also since Excel is not really by usual field of work.

Any help is highly appreciated, thanks!

    Hi sserge,

    Welcome to the forum

Im not sure if I understood your query. However, you can try using shapes adjacent to your pivot as call outs to add comments. Like this Book1.xlsx

    Thanks,

Re: Adding Comments To Pivot Table

    Hi Bonny.

Thanks for your effort. But unfortunately that's not exactly what I want. Unfortunately it's a bit more complicated. Let me elaborate on it.

There is a huge raw dataset with several thousand articles and their corresponding details. Since there are inconsistencies within the article numbers, same or similar articles have different articles numbers. When analysing this data I can not determine the best sellers correctly. Hence gradually, over time, adaptations have to be made. In order to keep track of that I need to add comments to the individual articles from within the Pivot table.

Meaning: I sort my data in the Pivot table, add a comment and that comment will be linked to the corresponding article and shows in the Pivot table.

Basically its adding another column to the raw data, which shows up in the Pivot, but is editable from within the Pivot.

I find it really hard to explain Basically adding a comment which moves with the data. A review comment is linked to a cell (not good for sorting) same applies to a static column.

Hope that clarified it a bit, otherwise I try to repharase this again.

Thanks again for your help and I appreciate the friendly tone around here!

I guess you came to the conclusion as well that this is not exactly possible?!

I think I know exactly what we are all looking for. I found this site and if you download the tutorial it show exactly what it does with screenshots.

I'm hoping one of you might be able to figure it out.
