    Mixing Formulas with Validation

    See Attached Doc.

In Cell A1 is a drop down list with different names - currently showing Dan and then a few results in %. Is there someway of when i change Cell A1 to someone elses name the cells will then go blank ready for the % to be typed in. Then if you click back on to Dan it will have the results that were initially shown.

    Re: Mixing Formulas with Validation

    Hi,

your table can be used to show numbers that are stored in a different place in the workbook, so that when you select a name in A1, the numbers for that person will be displayed. That shouldn't be too hard to set up if your data is arranged properly.

As to using the same table for entering new figures: no, not without complex VBA programming. You either have a data entry cell, where you type something, or you have a formula that calculates something, e.g. the numbers for the name in A1.

You can't have both, because as soon as you would start entering new data in the table, the formulas for displaying a certain value would be overwritten.

What you may need, though, might be a user form that is laid out similar to your table, where you can enter data into the form that will be saved in the spreadsheet when you click a save button. You might also be able to use the user form to display existing data sets.

But this will involve complex VBA programming.
